The Allman Brothers 3rd and 4th releases were both double albums - an
unprecedented endeavor. Neither album charted a top 40 single, but they
paved the way for their next recording - Brothers and Sisters - which
reached number one on the album charts and included their biggest hit,
Ramblin Man (which went to No 2).
Although Fillmore East had no singles, it contained the classic version
of "Whipping Post" and received wide critical acclaim. The album
represents the pinnacle of popularity for guitar based jamming.
Blue Sky - a classic rock staple - was never released as a single, although
3 other tracks from Eat a Peach were: Ain't Wastin' Time No More, Melissa,
and One Way Out. Despite the high percentage of winners, (some from the
same Fillmore concerts), Eat a Peach fails to appear in any of the "greatest
album" polls.
